Artist’s Statement
Anne Elisabeth currently lives just outside Raleigh, NC, where she continues to become more and more involved in the art world of that city. Art, especially portrait painting, is both a God-given talent and a joyful pursuit of hers that she believes will last her a lifetime.
In early high school she set up a small Pet Portrait in Pencil business, selling her work through a gift store in her hometown of Minocqua, Wisconsin. Customers enjoyed her ability to capture the individual personalities of their dogs and cats. Her own cat, Marilla, modeled for portraits and even for the pencil logo she used at that time.
Since then, Anne Elisabeth has studied illustration at Grace College in Winona Lake, IN. Using the techniques and skills she picked up there, she has expanded her repertoire to include people as well as pets. She utilizes a variety of media to create the proper mood for each individual work, and especially enjoys incorporating a “storybook” quality to her portraits as it suits the subject involved.
Anne Elisabeth’s interests include story telling, illustrating, portrait painting, singing, studying true doctrine, C. S. Lewis, LOTS of journaling, losing my brain, piano, opera, sad-depressing-tragical poetry, teddy bears, King Henry IV parts 1 and 2, tea (with cream and sugar) and scones with Devonshire Cream, tea cups, fairy tales, especially Beauty and the Beast and any variants of that theme, spiders (NO!), violets and roses, vanilla, quirky conversation, Tolkein, long walks (especially when there are autumn colors, though spring is nice too), soup in a mug, interesting trees, especially willows, hats, the color blue, Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, the sea, England, and my dearest Marilla cat! Congratulations to anyone who read all of that!
